Why most app videos fail
The average person sees thousands of ads daily. App store visitors decide to install or bounce in seconds. Your video isn't competing with other videos. It's competing with the user's thumb.
- App store previews are make-or-break. Your app store video is the highest-leverage piece of marketing you have. Most apps waste it with a slow screen recording and text overlays that nobody reads. You get 30 seconds. The first 3 decide everything.
- Social feeds are hostile to boring content. Users scroll past content that doesn't grab them immediately. Your UA videos need to open with a hook so strong it physically stops the thumb. Polished doesn't mean effective. Attention-grabbing does.
- You need volume at quality. Running paid acquisition means you need dozens of creative variants, tested and iterated constantly. You can't produce one hero video and run it for six months. Creative fatigue is real, and it kills your CAC.
- Platform specs change constantly. Vertical for TikTok, square for Instagram feed, horizontal for YouTube, specific dimensions for app store previews. Each platform has its own rules, and repurposing doesn't mean just cropping.
- Authenticity matters more than production value. B2C audiences have finely tuned BS detectors. Overly corporate video feels like an ad (because it is). The content that performs looks native to the platform, not like a TV commercial stuffed into a phone screen.
